Sanvedana Foundation has done a very notable for the Advocacy in 2025, which is going to be helpful for all the people with epilepsy across India. The topic of the advocacy is “Insurance for Epilepsy”. All the patients attached to Sanvedana always share how it is difficult for them to get insurance. Insurance companies immediately reject the insurance if someone is having epilepsy history. They do not even get insurance for “other than epilepsy health issues”. Sanvedana team has been working in the field of epilepsy for 21 years, and has seen more than 10,000 patients who have shared that their insurance was rejected. The founder of Sanvedana – Yashoda Wakankar worked very hard on this topic, and she has filed a PIL in the Honourable Supreme Court of India, New Delhi on 28th May 2025 against the Union Ministry of India and against “Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India” (IRDAI). She has appealed in the PIL that the People with Epilepsy have rights to get insurance like other human beings. … The best part of it is the Supreme Court has immediately accepted the PIL, and they have sent the notice to the Union Ministry of India and to the IRDAI, to explain why the insurance is rejected for the people with epilepsy.
